Broken Jaw

Kim Couture's recent professional debut was a debacle and that is putting it mildly. She suffered a broken jaw after the first punch in round one. A lot of discussion has gone around about the fight as a whole due to it being unsettling for hardcore MMA fans. Why didn't a doctor stop the fight? Why didn't Randy Couture (Kim's husband) stop the fight? Why were the rounds 5 minutes instead of the usual 3 for women?

Give Kim credit though she came out and defended her performance post fight in a radio interview. Kim did finish the fight after her jaw was broken which takes a tremendous amount of heart, imagine if a top-10 male fighter fought through a broken jaw he would be a hero. Whether she knows it or not she just proved women are tough enough to fight in MMA. At the same time though she gave further fodder for those who believe that women shouldn't be involved in MMA. Most promoters will probably stick with three minute rounds now for women and it is probably for the best. For those who say this is sexist think of women's tennis versus men's tennis. In men's it is best of five sets women best of three, same thing here for MMA.

Still she wasn't ready for this fight or the length of the fight and the proof is in the pudding...well the blood...and the broken bones...well just look for yourself.
