No MMA for New York

No good news for MMA in New York. Assemblymen Steve Englebright introduced a measure that would legalize MMA in the State of New York in committee today believing enough votes were present for it to pass out of committee. However several Assemblymen changed their votes and informed Mr. Englebright's office. Due to the change it has been decided to reintroduce the measure next Tuesday.
However even then it is unlikely to pass the General Assembly anytime soon. The 2008 session will end next week and the Assembly will be out of session till June. Unless the measure comes out of committee and is voted on by the entire assembly within essentially a seven day period it will not pass during this session. However a special session could be called during recess. A staffer commented that this is 'highly rare' and has "only happened a couple of times" since she started working there approximately five years ago.
If Dana White's big announcement was suppose to be the UFC coming to New York it is seeming more unlikely. Side note yes the New York Assembly is only in session from January to June, it is essentially a part time jobs as many members have other jobs and obligations they fill, similar to the founding fathers.
