Anderson Silva to 205 'personal favor for Dana White'

July 19th will be a significant night for the mixed martial arts. Affliction: Banned will have two fights on FSN for free and then go to pay-per view. Affliction's fight card is one of the most extremely talented fight cards in quite some time.

But then the UFC decided to counter program with Anderson Silva fighting James Irvin at light heavyweight (205 lbs.) on live T.V. for free. Silva recently commented (original is in Portuguese) about the move not being permanent and said he was moving up as a "personal favor for Dana White." First off lets state that translations are not perfect and there often are screw ups, the Da Vinci Code is all about 'mistranslations'. In essence 'personal favor' may mean something totally different in Brazil.

That being said, this statement conflicts with Dana White's version of events. White claimed that Silva was wanting to move up in weight to 205lbs. But if Silva's version is true then it indicates that the UFC is concerned about losing market share to new promotions.

It seems that Silva thinks he will go up in weight, kick the shit out of Irvin, make some money then go back to middleweight. And why not? He is virtually indestructible at 185lbs. So why should he move up to a deeper division where he has a size disadvantage? Can't wait to watch it on Tivo because I am going to watch Affliction: Banned.
