The MMA 'Big Bang'

Awhile back I wrote an article about how wonderful the summer would be for mixed martial arts. MMA was coming to prime time on network television, Fedor and other top-ten heavyweights would appear on Affliction: Banned and the WEC had there greatest fight card and ratings ever on Versus. Oh yeah, there was also a ton of great UFC fights.

But as the summer is winding down and I look forward to the fall I realize that the insane pace of events is going nowhere. UFC 88: Breakthrough is on September 06, 2008, than WEC 36 on Sep 10, 2008. The Ultimate Fighter 8 debuts a week later after UFC Fight Night 15. Three days later on September 20th, Strikeforce goes to Playboy (mmm plastic). EliteXC
has an event that night too.

Affliction leads off October with Arlovski vs. Fedor (still a rumor). Then UFC 89: Bisping vs. Leben Oct 18th. Chicago has its MMA and UFC debut a week later with UFC 90. There are still a lot of events and interesting fights on the way at a rapid pace.

Fall is already a saturated sports time, a period that has the beginning of the NFL season and Baseball's post-season. Oh I forgot, there is also the Olympics in August, the same month as UFC 87: Seek and Destroy and WEC 35.

But with all these MMA events the question is; will they continue to occur at such a high pace? Are we at a saturation point? Or has the 'MMA Big Bang' occurred and we will continue to be blessed with a high quantity and quality of fight cards. I really hope its the ladder.
