There Can Be Only One! -- Answer

A rematch between Quinton Jackson and Forrest Griffin is the answer to all the post-UFC 86 venting. Forget the possibility of Chuck Liddell fighting Griffin. While interesting it doesn’t hold a candle to the level of discussion and anger surrounding last weekend’s fight. The UFC finally has what their reality show failed to create Hype! With how closely contested the title fight was; coupled with some of the best five round action the UFC has had in awhile (the most recent and closest five rounder would be Randy Couture – Tim Sylvia, two years ago) how can you not put this fight on again? It is already on the short list for fight of the year and marketing the rematch and capturing mainstream media attention would be simple. The UFC marketing team simply needs to send out DVD’s of Griffin vs. Jackson with a simple note "Part two is in December."
This championship fight has done more than just garner interest it has ignited real discussion. People are debated changes in the scoring system or at least clarification. It helps though that the ABC (Association of Boxing Commissions) has released new ‘unified’ rules too. It feels as if the ’08 presidential election is leaking over into the MMA community. ‘Obamania-like' change is beginning to fester. At the very least there is a thought of reform.
With the recent news that Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson knee injury is not serious there are no excused for preventing a rematch. There is talk that Forrest should fight the UFC’s biggest draw Chuck Liddell. Liddell is slated to face Rashad Evans in Atlanta later this year and while the favorite nothing is guaranteed in MMA. Besides the Griffin-Liddell fight couldn’t possibly match the current Jackson-Griffin rematch hype. Plus what if Liddell is victorious and has to face Rampage for a third time (yawn).
No, there is only one answer, rematch.
