UFC 86 preliminary Previews: Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Justin McCully

Gabriel Gonzaga (8-3, 4-2 UFC) vs. Justin McCully (8-3-2, 1-0 UFC)

Gabriel Gonzaga’s career is a perfect fit to the old adage ‘the bigger they are the harder they fall.’ Gonzaga was launched to the pinnacle of the UFC heavyweight division with an unbelievable upset from crushing a head kick win over Pride veteran Mirko ‘Cro Cop’. Since then things haven’t gone so well. Gabriel got to fight for the heavyweight title against Randy Couture but received a broken nose in a resounding defeat. Gonzaga followed that loss with another Fabricio Werdum and if he can’t turn it around this Saturday he may go down as one of the biggest flukes in UFC history.

Justin McCully is largely an unknown quality. He hasn’t really fought anyone with a good submission game like Gonzaga’s. McCully’s UFC debut was not pretty but he did get the victory over Antoni Hardonk. This fight seems to be tailored made for Gonzaga however McCully is a longtime training partner of Tito Ortiz’s so he may be able to pull some porno wizadry and get the win. Gonzaga wins via submission.
