When UFC 89's main event was announced there was a collectively yawn. Chris Leben versus Michael Bisping, a fight that was suppose to happen then Leben had to get himself
arrested. Plus the fight is to take place in England, Bisping's home turf where he 'won' (stole) a fight against Matt Hammill.
But as the UFC announced more fights for UFC 89 the card looks more than solid. While it has no title defense as the main event there are plenty of significant matches. Lyoto Machida gets to fight Thiago Silva. Silva is a light heavyweight who is making some noise yet hasn't beaten anyone in the top-ten. The UFC continues to try and find anyone to fight Machida so they don't have to give him a title shot.
Then there is the overweight welterweight Thiago Alves, who recently defeated welterweight legend Matt Hughes. Alves gets fellow top-ten welterweight Diego Sanchez. A lot of questions will surround this fight. For instance, is Alves a fluke, will Diego be relegated to gatekeeper?
Another top light heavyweight rounds out the card in predator mask wearing Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou. Overall UFC 89 looks like a great card to make up for the injury riddled UFC 85.
