Defeating Rashad Evans does not equal a title shot
Unless your UFC poster boy Chuck Liddell (his sponsors IcemanRX gave it away too soon). No offense to Rashad Evans but he is no Shogun, Wanderlei, Machida, Sokoudjou, Rampage, Griffin, Jardine or every other light heavyweight ranked above Rashad Evans in the ranking. Don't get me wrong if (and most likely when) Liddell wins, a title fight with Forrest Griffin in December would be a huge coup for the UFC. Chuck Liddell is still the biggest draw and Griffin is extremely popular (and white), the fight makes sense. Especially when you consider how deep the 205lbs. division is and the fact that Liddell will be forty soon. Might as well get one last hooray before the end.
But still the arrogance and preferential treatment Liddell thinks he is entitled to is kind of ridiculous. He said this recently,
"I figured because I held the title for so long, I would be getting a title shot after I beat Silva but for whatever reason it didn't work out that way."
Yes UFC president, Dana White ,is Liddell's former manager so you can understand being on easy street. But Liddell was still dismantled by Rampage and then lost to Keith Jardine. Not exactly a way to build a resume for a title shot. Even with beating Wanderlei Silva last December. Oh Silva had lost two fights in a row before that.
In the end though, if Liddell wins on September 6th we will see him fight for the title and the PPV numbers will be up above 300,000.
