-Do not fuck with French Canadians! George St. Pierre absolutely
demolished Jon Fitch. It was a testament to Fitch's character as a fighter that he even finished the fight. GSP is
the welterweight in the world and is top three in the pound-for-pound rankings. The chief difference between GSP his competition is that Anderson Silva and Fedor fight in pretty weak divisions. Not so for GSP. Hopefully the
Penn-St. Pierre rematch is next (please be five rounds!).
-Brock Lesnar could become a force of nature. His size and speed is astonishing. Heath Herring is not a small guy and was thrown around like a rag doll. That being said Lesnar still has work to do. Besides his one big right hand his stand up looked suspect. Throughout the fight Lesnar fell back on his wrestling pedigree. If Heath Herring couldn't outwrestle Jake O'Brien there was no way he was going to outwrestle Lesnar.
-Oh, Roger Huerta. You are a testament to an over-hyped, protected fighter being exposed. The UFC slowly built you up and your two toughest fights you are 1-1, and the one you won Clay Guida was beating you for ten minutes. Huerta just killed whatever his negotiating power he had. Kenny Florian showed why he is on
ESPN's MMA Live. He out smarted and out fought Huerta through the entire fight, rocking him on several occasions. On a side note, I loved when Goldie said that both fighters are 'marketable'. Was that a subtle jab or a compliment to Huerta? Hmm I don't know. Let this fight be a lesson to any protected UFC poster boy who thinks they are hot shit (I am looking at you Michael Bisping).
-Manny Gamburyan you are an idiot just like your cousin Karo.
KO'd in 12 seconds to a guy who was in an Orange County gang. God I thought Armenians were tough shit.
-Jason MacDonald = Gatekeeper, Demian Maia = rising middleweight.
-UFC announcers discover fight stats! Give Goldie a stat and he will ride it to the bank. It was nice to see some fight metrics get used in the broadcast but man did Goldie over use it. GSP's 80% takedown rate was quoted oh about fifteen times. Same with Fitch's 70% takedown defense stat. Nice job incorporating it into the borad cast, it gave some tangible quantity to show how good the fighters were but don't say them every thirty seconds.
Overall Watch Kalib Run's predictions were 4-1 with a big flop on the Armenian special. Excellent night of fights anyhow. Now there are two weeks of pure Olympic bliss before the blitz of MMA this fall.
