Remember last week at the Republican National Convention (RNC) there were news reports of protestors being arrested. One of them was MMA heavyweight Jeff Monson. I never knew Monson was so politically active. The only other MMA fighter I know of who get involved in politics is Matt Lindland and he is running for a house seat in Oregon as a Republican. I guess Jeff Monson will protest his ass too.

I love this picture for a couple of reasons. One, the policemen's faces are hilarious. You can almost see them thinking, "WTF, this guy can kick are asses! Where are some college hippies we can tear gas, or some black people we can go all Rodeny King on."

Monson also looks like a bad ass, similar to Leonidas standing off with Persians at Thermopylae. Okay maybe not so dramatic but it is still a wicked shot. But it also makes Monson look relevant as a fighter for the first time in awhile. The guy may be a heavyweight but he is 5'9", which makes him a ball of muscle, think of him as a bigger Sean Sherk.

"Jeff Monson said they were trying to blockade the republican delegates from getting in the convention. He was detained but not arrested. I asked him if they hog tied him and he said no, that they would have had to taze him to do that.

He takes this stuff very seriously, so as always I was making fun of him. He said a couple of the cops recognized him and they were just yelling for the most part to get back..."
