The UFC's plan for global domination is leaving the continental United States and Europe to
head to the Philippines.
Remember back to when Lorenzo Fertitta told the MMA community that he would be taking on a more
prominent role within the UFC. That role would focus on international expansion. It looks like Lorenzo has his first victory with the news that the UFC will be planning an event in the Philippines in 2009.
Apparently what led to this decision was the fan turnout at an open workout for former UFC light heavyweight champ Chuck Liddell. Over 4,000 showed up to watch the Iceman get drunk.....errr I mean get knocked out......errr I mean workout.
Congratulations to the Philippines, you will have a major MMA event before New York City. Too bad most Americans know absolutely nothing about the archipelago, besides Douglas MacArthur saying "I Shall Return." Maybe the UFC is hoping that they can mimic Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier with a 'Thrilla in Manila'. Probably not going to happen though.
I really hope that Nate Quarry is on the fight card. Instead of copying Rocky IV Quarry may do a Robin Williams impression "Goooooooooood Mornnnnnnnnning VIET---NAM!" not realizing he is the Philippines.
