EliteXC dead

For those of you who thought WKR was using too much hyperbole in describing the state of EliteXC after Kimbo Slice lost to Seth Petruzelli, you were wrong. EliteXC is dead. Last night the news came out that CBS was unwilling to buy EliteXC. Without a new infusion of capital EliteXC could not survive. EliteXC has lost over $55 million since its conception in 2006.

EliteXC did bring MMA onto network television and for that they should be applauded, yet the organizations biggest failing was placing such a high premium on Kimbo Silce. Despite EliteXC's mistakes, and there were many (kimbogate), they did some good as well. EliteXC exposed female MMA to thousand of fans who were once dismissive of it.

For EliteXC fighters there are still options besides trying to enter the UFC. MMA Adrenaline, Dream, Strikeforce and Affliction are still viable options. Also this may fuel more regional MMA promotions.

For CBS they can still negotiate with Affliction or the UFC. Still there unwillingness to buy EliteXC may be evidence of a lack of commitment to MMA.

Goodnight to EliteXC we hardly knew ye...
