K.J. Noons goes all Tito Ortiz
"I’m a free agent" with that statement, K.J. Noons will remove himself from the MMA community. Noons thinks he is a free agent due to his remaining fights being conditioned on his status of champion. I don't know to what degree of truth is in that statement, but hey let K.J. run with it.
I am not one to be overly pessimistic, but where does K.J. Noons think he will be going? Affliction? They are already spending all their money on heavyweights such as Andre Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko. The UFC already has a shit ton of talented lightweights and won't take Noons at the price tag he is asking for. Dream? This is the only major (and I use that term loosely) organization that Noons could go to, possibly to fight Takanori Gomi. For right now Noons is left with EliteXC, demanding more money. I don't blame him for wanting to get paid, but K.J. needs to realize the finer points of negotiating.
First off, who has Noons beaten? Nick Diaz and....well....did I mention he beat Nick Diaz. Could someone remind me how he even beat Diaz? Oh that is right it was by a cut and a doctor's stoppage. Nick Diaz has been getting cut so easily he recently received plastic surgery to alleviate the scar tissue and rigid ocular bones. Now that Diaz is succesfuuly post-opt and not being cut by paperclips, Noons has turned down the fight three times (remind anyone of Peter denying Jesus, okay bad analogy). The result is Noons being stripped of his title and dignity.
Now I am one of the people who think that EliteXC is in some really bad shit with Kimbo losing. And their inability to garner ratings with their other marquee fighters is a significant problem. But when the promotion is unable to put on a fight that people may actually be interested in seeing and the fighter involved says thanks, but no thanks, you know that promotion is in some for of trouble.
So if K.J. Noons wants to be a free agent and not getting any offers fine. It will be nice to see this fight a year too late for everyone involved.
