Takanori Gomi just keeps disappointing

Takanori Gomi gets a lot of respect in MMA circles, yet the consensus #2 lightweight just keeps disappointing. The latest example came last week with a lost to underdog Sergey Golyaev. While the fight was close, and their is a real argument that Gomi did in fact win, the loss is still official. A future match with Satoru Kitaoka still seems assured.

Gomi has been upset before. In 2007 UFC cast off Nick Diaz faced off against the 'Fireball Kid' in Pride 33. Diaz handily defeated Gomi yet the fight was ruled a no contest after Diaz tested postive for marijuana. Due to Takanori's dreadful performance some began to doubt if he truly deserved to be counted as a top lightweight. While Gomi did follow the no contest with two victories (against unranked opponents) this latest loss raises those same doubts all over again.
