Affliction vs. Golden Boy

It once seemed that Affliction was poised to enter a promoting partnership with Oscar De La Hoya's promotion Golden Boy. Those days are long since passed. While the promotions have not declared open war on each other they are now in open competition. Golden Boy will host a welterweight superfight between four-time world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley and Mexican sensation Antonio Margarito on January 24 the same day as Affliction's Day of Reckoning. It gets worse for Affliction. Golden Boy will be holding the fight at the Staple Center thirty odd miles from the Honda Center in Anaheim. Couple that with Zuffa holding WEC 38 that same weekend and it appears that Affliction is in danger of being snuffed out.
Affliction is left with no good options here. Moving the fight to a later date may seem prudent but there is an unknown costs to that move. Besides moving the fight yet again could signal the doom to the promotion (something that appears to be a closing reality). Trying to ride out the counter programming storm seems dangerous due to the risk of low return of capital. What is a promotion to do? Hope athletes, musicians and movie stars keep buying their shirts.
