Dana White is just not happy

Dana White's pension for attention could be described as a 'severe case of primadona'. Just look at the video blogs that appear before every UFC event. While these are designed to show how accessible, reasonable and cool Dana White is, they also show his real time reactions to fights. Watching White react to the 'Night of Upsets' it is safe to say that he is none too pleased. (For those who haven't seen Dana White's video blog for UFC 92 you can check it out here)

First up is the fight between Cheick Kongo and Mustapha Al-Turk. The fight clearly went too long as Kongo pummeled Al-Turk back to Hezbollah controlled Lebanon. White and company's reactions mirrored that of reasonable fans across the globe, befuddlement. It is no surprise that the UFC is overly sensitive to late stoppages, what with the still fresh wound that was UFC Fight for the Troops. How else can you explain White's post-fight comments about Steve Mazzagatti,"He's a nice guy but not a referee". Hello? Earth to Dana White! Compared to Herb Dean and Mario 'I must see 2 pints of blood before I call this fight' Yamasaki, Steve is a good referee.

The next fight was between Wanderlei Silva and Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson. After Wanderlei is knocked out there is nothing but sullen silence from the UFC brass. Dana White stands stoically, Lorenzo Fertitta just keeps saying 'whoa' and Chuck Liddell lowers his head in disgust. Can we just call these three men the UFC Brain-Trust, it features the owner, the president and the man that the executives gave the keys to the franchise to.

The 'what do we do now?' reactions from the brain-trust can be attributed to the news that if Wanderlei won he would fight Chuck Liddell in March, but now that Wanderlei's brain is equal to the mush of Brett Farve's arm, the fight can't reasonably happen. Sorry Brain-Trust but you are going to need to find another way to try and make Liddell relevant. I know, just have him fight Forrest Griffin like you wanted all along.

Mir's victory doesn't garner nearly the same level of 'they are ruining my plans' body language but there is still the 'what is going on here, isn't Nogueira suppose to be really good at fighting?' reaction.

Then there is Rashad Evans' victory. At this point the brain-trust has been all worn out by the repeated 'Lucy- pulling the football away from Charlie Brown' moments of the evening and the video doesn't linger on the reactions of Dana White and company. Instead we get to see Rashad's wife applaud happily and isn't family what this whole fighting thing is about?

While the UFC brass didn't look too pleased with some of the outcomes they shouldn't be upset. The light heavyweight division didn't become a jumbled mess and actually became a lot more focused, as well as the heavyweight division. So turn that frown upside down Dana it is going to be an exciting 2009.
