Fight For the Troops Hangover

Some thoughts while I recover from my Fight For the Troops hangover

-In the pre-fight interviews Yoshiyuki Yoshida stated that he knew about Josh Koscheck's right hand and that he would avoid it. It took Koshcek just two minutes and fifteen seconds to prove Yoshida wrong. Koscheck scored his second career knockout with two right hands. The first dazed Yoshida so bad he froze with his hands down. Koscheck tee'd off with the second right to put Yoshida asleep. I guess Josh knew something when he kept referring to Yoshida as a Judo Player.

-Joe Rogan does not like 'trigger happy' referees.

-Ben Saunders to Brandon Wolff, "You like the way my knees taste!"

-Mike 'Quick' Swick took quick care of Jonathan Goulet, insert bad hair joke here____.

-Matt Hughes and Rich Franklin visiting wounded soldiers segment was solid. I wonder if Matt Hughes would be a good rehab trainer. Number 15 of the Tuffest Moments thinks probably not.

-Most ironic quote of the night "I want to thank god and give him all the glory...watch it pop....ugghhhh[Razak Al-Hassan arm snaps]... WHOOOAAA! That was so sweet. I have been waiting so long to do that. " ~Steve Cantwell

-Uhh, when you are trapped in arm bar and there is no way out please tap for the sake of your health.

-Terrorist vs. former WEC light heavyweight champ, who will win?

-Great seeing the personal interviews with soldiers who have been wounded in action. For those interested in more information about U.S. combat veterans and their struggles check out these stories from NPR; story 1, story 2, story 3 and story 4

-Tim Credeur breezed throught Nate Loughran. For how easily Credeur was landing shots there wasn't a lot of knock out power behind them, but that's just a minor complaint.

-Hooah! Maybe its the venue but an Al Pacino quote just seemed seemed appropriate.

-Celebrity Watch: Everlast, Charlie Sheen, Ron Livingston, Chris O'Donnell, Samuel L. Jackson, James Gandolfini, Robert Patrick, Rob Lowe, Matt LeBlanc, 50 cent, Laura Prepon, Shane Victorino and the Tapout Crew. Wait a second, does the TapouT Crew count?

-Really getting sick of Goldie pronouncing Valkyire as val-KA-ree instead of val-keer-ee

-You can often tell a show's target demographic by the commercials. UFC commercials: Axe Body Lotion, World of Warcraft, The Dark Knight, Prince of Persia, Valkyrie, Bud Light, Spirit, Guitar Hero, Captain Morgan, Burger King, The Day the Earth Stood Still and Call of Duty: World at War. I wonder who they think watch these fights.

-Random fact, Fort Bragg was named after the Confederate General Braxton Bragg. The fort was built in 1918. Bragg was not the greatest general but a close friend to Jefferson Davis.

-Weird that Wiman was prepared for last night's fight with a full camp where as Jim Miller took the fight on a week's notice, yet Wiman was the one who gassed first. Clearly a result of excellent submission attempts by Miller but still strange.

-Matt Wiman and Corey Hill both lose not a good night for TUF 5 fighters.

-Personal Note: I have several friends who have been deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan or are being deployed, my grandfather also served in WWII. The sacrifice these individuals make in service of our nation, our constitution and our common good should be valued and cherished. Even the mistakes made by our military should be viewed clearly in the light not brushed under the rug of overt nationalistic pride. It is our civic duty to ensure that the individuals who sacrifice so much at the alter of freedom be taken care of with the best long term care as well as short term care. When the government fails to protect those individuals it is our duty to protect them either by activism or charity.
