Oscar De La Hoya getting his ass kicked

The consensus after last nights 'dream fight' was a De La Hoyian nightmare. The consensus around the interwebs is that Oscar didn't show up, while Manny used speed with flurry of punches to take down the bigger man. Perhaps De La Hoya's weight cut just left him confused. The most telling stat line was power punches thrown and landed. De La Hoya landed 51 power punches and threw 195, a 31% success rate. Pacquiao on the other hand threw landed 164 power punches and threw 333, for a whopping success rate of 59%. The fight was simply an ass-kicking.

It appears that Oscar De La Hoya's fighting career is over. Being handled so easily by a smaller fighter without putting up even a semblance of real resistance indicates that De La Hoya is done in the ring. He will go on to make tons of money with Golden Boy so don't worry. Buy Pacquiao, Mayweather Jr. looks like a real 'dream fight'.

The one lesson to take from this fight, is when two fighters from different weight classes agree to meet at one in the middle, go with the better fighter. Always go with the better fighter. Now if a fighter is moving up a weight class and the opponent isn't moving down then you can factor size in.
