UFC 92: Focuses the picture for some, blurs line for others

UFC 92 may of been a night of upsets but the tapestry that is the UFC's many divisions became more clear then hazy after Saturday's fights. Two possibilities await Rashad Evans, the new light heavyweight champion, he could be slated to fight the winner of the Lyoto Machida Thiago Silva fight. Or the other possibility would be to fight Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson. Jackson clearly earned a title shot after avenging two previous losses to Wanderlei Silva.
Remember this summer when Forrest Griffin versus Chuck Liddell seemed inevitable? It may be now, with both fighters losing to Rashad Evans, a fight between Liddell and Griffin could be a main event for a spring fightcard. Frank Mir's victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has earned him a rematch against Brock Lesnar, to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion. Nogueira's loss actually opens a door for another fight that was rumored but never came to be. Randy Couture can now fight 'Minotauro' as a co-main event, in a meaningful 'retirement' bout this summer.
The only major fighter whose future has become less clear, is Wanderlei Silva's. Silva is 1-4 in his past five fights, losing three by vicious knockout. Sam Caplan has, correctly, brought up the question of Wanderlei's long term health. Being the recipient of so many knockouts may lead to his fighting license being suspended, perhaps a move to middleweight would be wise at this point in his career. However only time will tell what the future for the 'Axe-Murderer' will be.
Overall UFC 92 did what a good end of the year fight card should do. It opened the door for a host of possibilities for 2010, I know I can't wait to see what happens next year.
