The
UFC is continuing its expansionist policies and I can't believe Neville Chamberlain signed that treaty at Munich. The policies of appeasement will not work! Churchill '12!
The
UFC is already holding shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland (Dublin is not part of the U.K.) but it appears that the
UFC is
planing to cross the English channel with
UFC 99
tentatively scheduled for Germany. Dana White has also noted that France, Spain and the Philippines are possible places for
future expansion.
Interesting that the first non-English speaking country the UFC is headed to is Germany. It seems the UFC is headed there for the high numbers of English speaking citizens. Besides English is a Germanic language.
Missing from that list is Japan and Brazil, two countries that have strong national martial art traditions. With the UFC's impressive list of Brazilian fighters it seems quite strange they haven't pursued a fight there. Probably due to Brazilian currency vs. U.S. and European, but I am still shocked that there are no rumors surrounding possible expansion.
Japan is a different story. The UFC seems fine to let the Japanese MMA fan base have Dream and K-1. I personally think that Zuffa thinks it's product won't work in Japan the way Pride did, so they are simply staying away.
In the U.S. the unicorn is still New York. There next legislative session is in January so it will be a few weeks before some news comes out of Albany. Outside of that it appears the UFC will continue trekking around the country with its power base remaining in Vegas.
