Some thoughts while I recover from my WEC 37 hangover

-Miguel Torres is a legit top-ten pound-for-pound fighter. In the first round of the fight with Manny Tapia it appeared that Torres was being hesitant though he was still outscoring Tapia. In the second round Torres unleashed his full fury. Torres even threw a cartwheel-axe-leg kick thingy, I've never seen that before.

-Manny Tapia's Mexican flag brok as he entered the arena, foreshadowing anyone? Torres entered by copying Tapia's entrance music making it the duel of Mariachi music, I know this pumps me up for a fight.

-More fighters need to enter to Rocky music. YO ADRIAN!

-Frank Mir totally called out Oscar De La Hoya, a shot at Golden Boy and Affliction by chance?

- The excitement level inside the arena is on par with a regular season NBA game, people cheer for the dunks a.k.a. the takedowns but besides the brief points of exuberance the crowd seems really disinterested. Looking at the undercard it doesn't appear that many of the fights were boring, only two decision with several TKO's and submissions. I wonder what caused the depression; did a member of the audience get trampled in an attempt to buy a 20% discounted HD TV?

-Entering the arena without a possy just looks really weird l. It just doesn't feel right and it makes the Hard Rock look really empty. I want my fighters to enter an arena with fifteen guys all in Affliction...err....I mean TapouT shirts, with their hats on sideways flashing 'west side' symbols with fake diamond sunglasses, basically I want Kanye West in my possy. Is this too much to ask for?

-Urijah Faber commercials remind me a lot of Brady Quinn commercials. Why is that?

-If I wasn't drinking heavily or if my alma mater's basketball game wasn't on T.V. (Go Xavier!), I would have changed the channel multiple times during the Benavidez-Martinez fight.

-A female MMA referee, when did this start happening? I am not trying to be sexist or anything but has anyone seen female refs in the NFL, NHL, NBA or MLB? Hell, there are barely any female play-by-play announcers. I thought part of the point of being an MMA ref was having the ability to throw off a fighter as he continues to pummel an unconscious opponent. After watching the female ref for fifteen minutes I think she can handle the fighters, she looks like a Viking. Still great sign towards the acceptance of women in MMA right now.
