How bad are Affliction: Day of Reckoning's ticket sales?
Tom Atencio is saying that everything is fine with his promotion's ticket sales for their second event, Day of Reckoning. But rumors persist and an internet investigation by Rear Naked News show that Atencio might be pulling a Baghdad Bob.
Rear Naked News did a little fact check after Atencio predicted that Affliction's second show would generate equal sales to Affliction: Banned. This is what RNN discovered,
1. (10) $1K tickets in Section 101, Row 4, Seats 7-16
2. (10) $445 tickets in Section 208, Row L, Seats 1-10
3. (10) $100 tickets in Section 409, Row H, Seats 1-10
4. (10) $50 tickets in Section 441, Row N, Seats 1-10
It's never a good sign when you can find ten seats together two weeks before an event. The seat numbers also give me pause. Ticketmaster's system returns seat numbers from lowest to highest. No one is buying these things or else you wouldn't be seeing 1-10 in the results.
WKR tried to duplicate RNN's results with little luck. No package of 10 tickets was found in the 100 section on Ticketmaster and group of 4 was found on Ticketstub. However there was a package of 10 tickets in the 200 section. There were also a great deal of 400 level tickets available, a group of 15 yesterday. The following pictures are screen shots of the searches and results.
While WKR's results do not reflect good ticket sales, they aren't nearly as disastrous as what RNN found.
The first Affliction show sold 11,242 tickets and 14,832 spectators (the difference is due to comped tickets) for a live gate of $2.1 million. Affliction VP Tom Atencio believes that Affliction: Day of Reckoning will mirror those numbers. However the show has steep competition with UFC 93 a week before and UFC 94 a week after. Also Golden Boy Promotions is holding a boxing fight at the Staples Center and WEC 38 is the night of 25th. Ultimately the show is under a lot of pressure.
