Trouble for World Extreme Cagefighting?
When Zuffa bought the WEC the first item of business was cutting the heavyweight division. A few months later the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions were folded into the UFC. Now it appears inevitable that the welterweight division will follow suit and join the UFC.
WEC 39 is a month away and the card has already lost its main event. Current WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit, withdrew from his title fight against Brock Larson due to an injury. Now it is rumored that both fighters and indeed the whole division will soon migrate to the UFC. The UFC's welterweight division is one of the deepest divisions, this would simply add to the impressive cadre of talent.
If this is the end of the WEC's welterweight division then that would leave the promotion with three divisions, lightweight (155lbs.), featherweight (145lbs.), bantamweight (135lbs.)
There is a rumor that the WEC would compensate for the lost division by adding a flyweight (125lbs.) division

Personally, I see Carano getting signed as soon as this whole EXC mess is sorted out. After that, I think you’ll see Zuffa scoop up most of the premier female MMA talent, including Cyborg, and put together 2 or 3 weight classes. Something like.
- 145 lb
- 135 lb
- 120 lb
Women fighters = Win
If this has anything to do with bringing in female MMA, then I couldn’t be happier.

lightweight...
why doesn’t the ufc move its lightweight division to the wec? then the promotion would have marketable stars of its own.
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
