Fantasy #1 Contender Tournament Round 1: #2 Jon Fitch vs. #15 Marcus Davis

The UFC Welterweight Division has a plethora of young talent, a dominating champion, and many exciting match ups to choose from, but the one thing they lack is a true number one contender.  I doubt the UFC would ever put together a welterweight tournament to determine a true number one contender (oh do I hope to be wrong), but we at WKR can have our own virtual (we're dorks, deal with it) tournament.  The bracket and rankings have been set and it is time to begin the tournament.  Let your vote choose who wins the most prestigious, meaningless, fake, yet enjoyable UFC Welterweight number 1 contender tournament.

The next match up is between #2 ranked Jon Fitch and #15 Marcus Davis.  Fighter details after the jump.

UPDATE: The last day to vote for any first round match ups will be Sunday October 4.  The Second Round will start on Tuesday the 5th.

Star-divide

Jon Fitch 19-3 (1) (10-1 UFC): Fitch is a beast.  His only UFC loss is to George St. Pierre and he showed an incredible amount of heart in a devastating loss.  He is an outstanding wrestler and Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu black belt.  He has had some trouble finishing recently with his last 4 wins all coming way of decision.  However, since he lost so convincingly to GSP (who hasn't recently) he will probably need two more wins to get a title shot within the UFC.

Marcus Davis 16-5 (8-3 UFC): The first fighter I was a true fan of and his fight with Paul Taylor is a perfect example of MMA's greatness.  He was rocked by Taylor and getting pummeled only to recover, regain composure, and submit Taylor with an armbar.  He is also an evolving fighter who at the start used his boxing background to keep the fight standing, but has recently improved his ground game with 3 of his last 6 wins coming via submission.  His ground work almost got him a win against Dan Hardy as well, he lost via split decision.  Fitch would be a big favorite here, but Davis's strong boxing could be key for an upset.

#4 Mike Swick vs. #13 Dong Hyun Kim

#3 Josh Koscheck vs. #14 Anthony Johnson

#7 Paulo Thiago vs. #10 Carlos Condit

#1 Thiago Alves vs. #16 Brock Larson

#8 Matt Hughes vs. #9 Paul Daley
