The Latest Chapter of the Anderson Silva Elbow Saga

Anderson Silva is giving waffling a new name.

In the latest interview with MMA Weekly

Silva's camp voices their displeasure with possible opponent, Vitor Belfort, as well as stating that Anderson Silva's elbow may need more surgery,

"It's doctor's decision," he added in English. "My elbow is hurt, but doctor Chad says come back to training, come back to fight."

On Wednesday, the champion is scheduled to begin physical therapy after getting his surgery stitches removed. Soares says a decision on Silva's fight-readiness will be made in 10 days.

MMA Live was the first to report that Anderson Silva would undergo elbow surgery. Then Kevin Iole talked to Silva's manger, Ed Soares, who said that Silva did not need elbow surgery. Then UFC president, Dana White, confirmed that Anderson would in fact undergo surgery

Are you dizzy yet?

Despite the surgery it was then announced that Silva would defend his middleweight title against Vitor Belfort at UFC 108.

So is this just the latest chapter of waffles and maple syrup being served to us á la carte courtesy of Ed Soares and Team Silva?

We probably won't know till January 2nd. The date of UFC 108.

It pains me to think Anderson Silva and Ed Soares might become the Terrell Owens and Drew Rosenhaus of the UFC.

I think people are making way too much a big deal out of what Ed Soares says, how he translates what Silva says, and what Anderson Silva actually say.

I noticed that there is a difference between what Silva says to the brazilian press and what he says to the american media.

While Silva may not be media savy, just remember one thing . . . he shows up in the Octagon, unless he is injured. He has fought hurt. He has not flaked on fight yet. He fought everybody his boss put in front of him, including two LHW fighters. All the talk and comments in between fights are just talk and comments. Whether that endears fans and repels fans is another story.

@Zak, I think fans will be dizzy if they follow every word and get caught up in reports coming from Silva and Soares. I expect another news report concerning his retirement any day now. Last report I recall, he’s inching toward fighting while his family wants him to retire. That basically means that he will be fighting. He pretty much sounds like many other fighters at the age of 35 – 40+ (Hopkins, Couture)

@Norm78, TO is good for putting his foot in his mouth, crying, moaning, bitching, etc. but I never heard a peep about his work ethic on the field.

part of the reason why we (and blogs in general) keep posting contradictory stories is that they usually involve the stars of MMA who are the big page view generators.

I know it is all part of the fun but I think some fans take things way too seriously and literally. Anderson and Wanderlei’s misunderstanding (through the media, I might add) was often described as a War of Words, Heated Rivalry, etc. When they actually met recently face to face . . . it was cool. But most people still report it like they were going to war.

But yeah, I know it is all about the page views. Some times I’m like Charlie Brown, Good Grief . . . it is really not that deep.

I feel ya

Part of it is when one site describes it a certain way you (the writer) feel like that is the story to tell.

Also, it gets page views and unfortunately that’s how we generate ad venue.

This pretty much answers everything. Silva has legit injury and surgery and therefore, the Lesnar-Carwin fight was moved.
