TUF 10 Episode 5 Recap: "Drain Babies"

Photo

The latest episode of The Ultimate Fighter begins with Rashad gloating over his team's 4-0 record. There is certainly an air of confidence for the team as it appears that rival coach, Quinton Jackson, has checked out. Matt Mitrione talks about his sore shoulder and his football days where he would get a cortisone shot (yikes) and go back to work. Rashad isn't too happy about the idea.

During the changeover between training session Marcus Jones, of Team Jackson, exchanges pleasantries with Rashad where he asks Evans to be picked to fight next. Rashad responds that its not too late to switch teams but also hints at the possibility of Jones being Team Rashad's next target, which causes Marcus to have a fit of glee.

Rampage is mad about the four straight losses saying that the losses are beginning to affect his sex life. Sounds like it is time to work harder and we get our first glimpse of Jackson doing some coaching.

The episode then focuses in on Team Rampage's final pick, Zak Jensen. We found out that Jensen is very raw and needs time to develop. Unfortunately for Zak he is on Team Rampage.

For those that were wondering what happened to the gross-out theme of TUF that we have all come to know and love, don't worry, it's back. At the house Wes Sims accuses Zak Jensen of leaving his man juice in the shower. Jensen denies that he got a little lonely in the shower saying that he blew his noise. Brendan Schaub says that, "he [Zak] shouldn't be here, let's be honest."

It appears that the storyline for Zak is that he is a socially awkward loner who isn't very a good fighter. Talk about drawing the short straw.

The other big storyline of this episode is Matt Mitrione who Rashad labels as a "meat head" and a "drama king." The coaches of Team Rashad discuss what to do with Matt and decide it is time to push him as they still want to go undefeated.

Star-divide

At the Team Rampage training session Wes Shivers informs Quinton of Zak and his "drain babies", which Rampage proceeds to joke about in one of the funnier exchanges of the season. During a grappling session Jensen passes out from a submission and receives oxygen from the paramedics as we cut to commercial break.

After the break we witness Rashad and Matt Mitrione arguing over the injured shoulder.

Let's talk about something meaningful like who is going to fight this episode. Team Rashad picks Justin Wren to fight Wes Sims. Wren had previously asked Rashad to change his match-up to avoid fighting his good friend Scott Junk. Marcus Jones of Team Rampage is noticeably upset that Rashad didn't pick him to fight and accuses Rashad of going back on his word. During a confessional Jones explains his sulking saying, "I am not sensitive. I am pissed off."

We are half way through the show, which means it is time for the fighter bios. First up is the 22 year old Justin Wren. Wren trains out of Travis Lutter's gym.

In the house Wes Sims talks to Kimbo Slice about what he wants to do and the discussion inevitably turns to Kimbo Slice and how he wants to fight again this season. I think I speak for everyone when I say, give it a rest Spike.

Sims' training session seems more like a reality show casting video then a training session, which should really come as no surprise.

At the weigh-in Justin Wren has a mohawk and some pink leopard spot underwear. Wes Sims one-ups Wren with what appears to be a speedo.

Interesting interview with Dana White who picks Wes Sims to win the fight. I think he might regret that.

The fight begins with just eight minutes left in the episode, which means it probably won't get out of the first round.

Wren immediately shoots and pushes Sims against the cage and they begin to trade foot stomps. They break and Sims attempts a front kick but Wren pushes through and secures the takedown. Justin secures side control and then mount. Wren transitions to an arm triangle and it is in tight though Sims refuses to tap. Its only a matter of time as Sims refuses to tap with Herb Dean watching for Sims to pass out, once he does the fight is over.

Justin Wren def. Wes Sims via submission (arm-triangle) - Round 1, 1:34.

Sims receives medical attention and Rampage bemoans his "bad luck." Team Rashad is now 5-0 and Team Rampage member Wes Shivers explains that Jackson isn't a coach he is a fighter.

Dana White eats his pick of Wes Sims over Justin Wren.

The episode ends with Rashad and Rampage jawing at each other. Alas it is all for not.

Damn you A-Team!!!

The preview for the next episode feature a lot of f-bombs between Darill Schoonover and Rampage. People keep shitting on Zak Jensen and once again Spike teases that Kimbo could be back due to an injury, which causes Kimbo to praise Jesus.

Its certainly up there with the pantheon of shit that TUF has delivered.

Season 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 all pretty bad.

I really wanted to get into this season, and bad. I was expecting these big burly monster men to cause mayhem and destruction and thusfar all I’ve seen is mild tomfoolery, awful fights and the worst coaching ever.

the fights have been ATROCIOUS

I do think that Rampage’s team selection certainly has something to do with it so hopefully once Rashad’s guys fight each other things will improve.

Then again this season was always about Kimbo, Page and Rashad. It was never suppose to be good

i feel as if every episode shows Rashad in a stronger light. This season is probably doing more for him than anyone else.

I skipped southpark for that? I’ll never get the thought of Wes powersliding in the shower out of my brain.
