Dan Henderson Talks About his Contract Negotiations

(Part 2 after the jump)

Sports Net Canada talked to Dan Henderson about his ongoing contract negotiations with the UFC. Henderson sticks close to the script of a free agent athlete and doesn't tip his hand too much so the status of the contract talks remains the same.

But what about the possibility of Dan Henderson moving to Strikeforce?

Michael David Smith's interview with Strikeforce's new matchmaker, Rich Chou doesn't offer any clues as to what Henderson is thinking.

Where is Strikeforce in its negotiations with Dan Henderson?
I know Scott and Dan talked but that's about it.

But is Dan on the verge of signing with Strikeforce?
Dan is a great fighter and I think it's a no-brainer that any promotion would like to have Dan on the roster, but all that's happened so far is he and Scott had coffee.

I am sure Strikeforce would love to have Dan but it appears that Henderson still wants to fight in the UFC.

Hendo probably doesn't have that long left.

I’d say the UFC is best for him, as opposed to the lesser-paid glory of being a big fish in a small pond. He’ll probably cave to the UFC eventually. That immediate Silva fight is not going to happen. He’s not important enough to the UFC for them to resign him with that guarantee.

Ben Fowlkes summed it up nicely,

The upsides with Henderson are: 1) he’s a hard-ass who doesn’t bitch and complain a lot, and does more or less whatever you need him to, 2) fans know who he is and generally like him, 3) and he’s the only guy in the UFC so far to convincingly win a round against Anderson Silva. At a time when the UFC is struggling to find both credible challengers for Silva and main event-caliber draws, Hendo is a guy who can offer both. Hard to understand why you wouldn’t want to keep him around.
