Massachusetts Close to Sanctioning MMA

Photo

Massachusetts is one governor's signature away from sanctioning mixed martial arts, which means the UFC is close to holding an event in Boston and possibly Fenway Park. Hopefully this means we get to see those crazy Boston girls.

The bill before the governor only received 11 nay votes in total from both state senate and the house. A refreshing sign as it wasn't too long ago that the Boston Globe was decrying the possibility of sanctioned MMA as "human dog-fighting." Luckily it appears those days are passed us or that newspapers are dying, take your pick).

This is good news for MMA fans everywhere as the marquee MMA promotion will likely hold a major event in one of east coast's largest media markets. Holding events in large media markets can do a lot to dissuade the fears of a politicians and could be a big step in moving MMA legislation forward in other states *cough, New York, cough*

Ironically on the same day that the Massachusetts news broke Dana White went to see a movie that every stereotypical Bostonian wished they were in.
