Was Shane Carwin Offered an Alternate Opponent for UFC 106?
One of the great things about social networking sites like Twitter is the instant connectivity between athletes and fans.
Yesterday WKR pondered whether the UFC had offered Shane Carwin an alternate opponent for UFC 106, which, one would assume, would entail an interim heavyweight title. So WKR asked Carwin through Twitter and the answer was no. The UFC never offered Carwin a different opponent.
At least WKR thinks that what Carwin meant with his response.
If it is true that Zuffa never offered Shane a different opponent it could indicate that the UFC believed that UFC 108 was a greater priority than UFC 106. Or that they needed some cover in case Anderson Silva couldn't fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 108.

I’ve got a few conspiracy theories assuming that it’s not a case that Lesnar was/is really sick. One is that, as you suggest, UFC 108 is a bigger priority. Perhaps they’re hoping that Tito can still sell PPVs and they want to make sure their big New Years’ show is a blockbuster. Another? They don’t want such close comparison between their heavyweight champ and that Russian guy who’s fighting on CBS in early November ;-)
