UFC 107 may have some competition from Strikeforce and Herschel Walker
Dave Meltzer points out that Strikeforce may be planning an event for December 12th, which coincides with UFC 107 in Memphis, Tennessee.
While not yet officially announced, Strikeforce has a hold on the HP Pavilion in San Jose for a show on Dec. 12, and former football great Herschel Walker, during an appearance on ESPN2, tabbed mid-December for when he would like to make his MMA debut.
Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker earlier this week said that Dec. 12 was only a tentative date. But if the date proceeds, it would be the first time a Showtime MMA event would go head-to-head with a UFC pay-per-view card.
Color WKR skeptical but the fact that Strikeforce has a hold on the stadium in San Jose doesn't mean there is going to be a show there.
Strikeforce is pulling out all the stops for their CBS show on November 7th. This will most likely result in a depleted roster for a December 12th card, which would be going head to head with a UFC pay-per view event. Granted UFC 107 is not looking like an unstoppable force but that is still some serious competition for Strikeforce's audience, which is hardcore MMA fans.
Meltzer points out that Herschel Walker is planning for a mid-December debut.
Could the former Heisman winner carry a Showtime card by himself?
If Strikeforce proceeded with this game plan they would be making a huge leap of faith on Walker's popularity. Then again the Herschel signing was the most popular MMA story in the mainstream media this month.

Yea, because a 50 year old guy just starting a new sport is going to draw me away from the UFC. I really am starting to wonder about Scott Coker’s gameplan versus Dana now.

LOL
Oh, so you bash Coker because the media “thinks” they will counter the UFC?
