Urijah Faber signs new deal
One of the first and principle stars of World Extreme Cagefighting signed a new multi-year, multi-fight deal.
Urijah Faber (22-3) is the former WEC featherweight champion and is easily the most recognizable fighter to come out of the organization. Despite Faber's star status there were issues with getting him re-signed, namely an increase his pay. At WEC 41 Faber's last fight he received a disclosed salary of $25,790 in a losing effort to current featherweight champion Mike Brown. On top of the low pay, Urijah broke his hand during the fight with Brown.
There was speculation that Faber could leave Zuffa's smaller promotion and head to a rival though WEC general manager Reed Harris says that speculation was "exaggerated."
At the moment there are no details regarding Faber's new deal it is assumed that he will be one of the WEC's top paid assets. Urijah is usually a fixture in the WEC's highest rated fight cards.
Faber's timetable for return is during either the very end of 2009 or the first quarter of 2010.
