Fedor vs. Rogers Draws Over Five Million Viewers

One of the principle questions going into Strikeforce: Emelianenko vs. Rogers centered around the drawing power of Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers.

Fedor was notorious for his inability to secure large crowds and generate significant pay-per view audiences but that may have changed last Saturday night.

The ratings for the Fedor-Rogers fight are finally available and their bout drew 5.46 million viewers, making it the ninth most watched fight in MMA history (Kimbo Slice vs. Roy Nelson is not listed but was the fourth most watched fight). The ratings for the Strikeforce's main event also elevated the overall ratings for the entire broadcast, which now averaged 4.042 million viewers throughout the broadcast.

While this still places CBS in last place of the networks, the impressive spike in viewership means they may have a brand worth building. Hopefully the next CBS show --if there is a sequel-- will result in a more serious promotional effort.

If only they were smart enough to promote the ‘brand’(Strikeforce) instead of "Saturday Night Fights’….

maybe they have decided that promoting Strikeforce versus promoting MMA/Saturday Night Fights is a bad idea as the UFC is almost synonymous with MMA.

I think they’re most likely trying to create a sense of continuity tying onto the Elite XC shows. I think the “brand” they want promoted is CBS.
