Fight Stats for Couture vs. Vera
When a fight is close and controversial WKR usually looks to statistical breakdowns of the fight to better inform our opinion. That way we won't sound like some raving lunatic. Most of the time anyway...
Fight Metric's breakdown gives the fight to Vera but their 10 point must break down scores it a draw. Also Fight Metric's performance ratings for each fighter were fairly dreadful.

With any statistical breakdown you can't rely on a single source. That's why WKR went to CompuStrike this morning.
CompuStrike statistics tell a different story than Fight Metric's data, with Couture landing and throwing more punches in almost every category.

Ultimately the fight was close and with any close fight there is room for interpretation and debate.
More statistical breakdowns after the jump.

I totally agree with CompuStrike stats.
I don’t think there was any controversy in this decision.

1. Vera failed to end the fight
2. Brandon failed to control the pace of the fight.
3. Vera was unable to stop Couture’s clinch and grind game.
4. Couture was scoring with strikes via hands and knees against the cage.
5. Randy Couture was able to do his thing, fight his fight.
Everybody is splitting hairs but at the end of the day, Vera owned up to the lost. He’s disappointed with himself for not pulling the trigger. It was his fight to win if he was able to keep Randy at a distance.

what you are missing is damage, which is suppose to play a role in the scoring of strikes.
Couture’s strikes weren’t damaging where as Vera’s were.

True but I don’t think Vera damaged Couture enough to warrant a decision.
Arguably 3-4 damaging kicks and 1 takedown against Couture’s clinch game? I understand that the power shots are something that many boxing judges really look at but Vera’s power shots were far and few between.

Wait
The screenshots you have for Fightmetric don’t match what I’m seeing on there. They have Randy as trying for 10 Takedowns not 3… maybe they updated it?

CompuStrike
continues to dissapoint. Fight Metric contiunes to do fantastic work, that is not to say it doesn’t have it’s flaws but Fight Metric is by far the best statistical scoring system imo.
