Strikeforce may finally unify their lightweight titles.

Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez are scheduled to fight on the upcoming Strikeforce: Evolution fight card.

Thomson won the Strikeforce lightweight title when he defeated Gilbert Melendez in June of 2008. Many fans were hoping for a rematch but Thomson has been plagued with injuries causing the potential fight to be canceled three times.

During Thomson's long lay-off Strikeforce created an interim title, which Gilbert Melendez won and has subsequently defended at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg.

Also, Jay Hieron told MMA Junkie that he wants to fight on Strikeforce's January 30th fight card. Hieron was suppose to fight Nick Diaz for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title but Diaz failed to show up for a pre-fight drug test throwing the bout in doubt. Jay Hieron ended up fighting and defeating TUF 7 veteran, Jesse Taylor.
