Jake Rosholt cut by the UFC

Jake Rosholt found himself the latest victim of the UFC's constant roster trimming. Rosholt announced on his twitter account that he was cut from the promotion.
Rosholt (6-2) went 1-2 in the UFC and last fought at UFC 102, where he was submitted by Kendall Grove. Jake received $15,000 of base salary in the loss to Grove.
Jake Rosholt was a NCAA Division I wrestling champion at Oklahoma State and was a four-time All-American wrestler. Many considered Rosholt to be one of the top wrestling prospect within the organization.
Last week the UFC cut another underperforming UFC 106 fighter, in Brock Larson, who was being paid more than Rosholt. With both Larson and Jake being cut it appears that the UFC has sent a signal to the remaining fighters on their roster: win or find a new job.

you know when i first saw jake in the wec i thought he looked like crap and put on a really boring fight…but he really impressed me with the leben fight, he looked like a totally new fighter….i think if he keeps improving this guy could be pretty good…not sure why they got rid of him…i mean middleweight isnt exactly stacked

Thats sorta messed up...
I dont understand why the UFC is cutting so much fighters…but continue to re-sign fighters who dont even deserve to be in the Octagon IMO….

denial of resources is the reason why they went out and signed a bunch of journeymen. They think that other promotions can’t build up names so keeping old guys is more important then building up some fighters

Thats sorta stupid right?? I think if they sign fighters who deserve it and build them up we will have more exciting fights!! Like honestly I dont think Baroni, Ortiz and Coleman should have even came back…IMO
How ever I really like the re-sign of The Janitor and Buentello…Also the addition of Lil’Nog!!!!!!;)

I don't disagree,
but back when Affliction folded Zuffa went on a signing spree and a lot of those guys were names or old names. This was followed by a lot of middle tier fighters being cut, even if the fighters showed promise and need time to develop they were cut.
To a degree you could argue that Zuffa was right bc SF and others haven’t signed the Jason MAcDonald’s, Rich Clementi’s or Rosholt’s

But letting Hendo,Huerta and Larson go are a bit questionable….However I think SF will sign Rosholt.
J-Mac would be nice addition to SF hell even Clementi….But Im sure they are getting Huerta, But honestly UFC needs to atleast TRY to get international names and not local fighters IMO like they should try to get some Dream or Sengoku fighters.

Larson was clearly not worth the guaranteed $25K a pop considering he was losing to $6K fighters making their debut.
Hendo and Huerta are both contract disputes over the desire for big $$$. The UFC stuck to their guns there and was basically like “we offered you what we think your worth take it or leave it.”
The fighters know that being in the UFC is lucrative for advertising and leveraging their brand that’s why Huerta and Hendo havent bounced. Especially in Hendo’s case bc the guy could fight for the title

Makes more sense!! Hendo, Huerta would be great additions to SF but that is a bad career move IMO
Huerta would have to fight Aoki, Melendez, Thomson…then who else even Hendo!!

I actually like this move.
He has great raw talent and a phenomenal base to build from, in addition to having solid coaching from “Boba Fett” Laimon. That said, the UFC isn’t the place to learn and hone your skills and that showed in the fight with Grove.
He was all over him until he made an error and got beat. Same with the Dan Miller fight – just too green to beat a savvy vet like Miller.
Strikeforce will probably reach out because they need talent, but he’d be better off building in a smaller organization IMO and then moving to the big boys.
Don’t cry for him, Argentina – he’ll be back.

TUF 1 doesn’t count in this to me, as most of those guys had loads of experience coming into the show. Many of the guys on TUF 2 as well…
But outside of the guy who wins the competition, many become mid-card or lower fighters who get bounced after a fight or two or three.
For every Michael Bisping there is a Josh Haynes. For every Ryan Bader, a Vinnie Magalhaes.
Yes there is room to grow and learn in the UFC, but you have to have the ability to win fights right off the bat to get the chance to learn and grow there… Rosholt couldn’t do that. Many of the non-winners they keep from TUF don’t do that and they all get cut.

Rosholt has had a bullseye on his ass from Zuffa since his illfated WEC debut. Remember his management negotiated a deal that guaranteed him a televised fight in his WEC debut, a not ready for primetime fight that bumped the excellent Donal Cerrone-Rob McCollough fight of the year candidate, much to the dismay and disgust of Dana White and the Fertitta’s, along with many MMA fans’.
His win over Leben was his saving grace and a starmaking performance. The UFC gave him a passable test in the glass-jawed Grove. He failed and this is what happens.
Fortunately, the UFC has trimmed a ton middleweight fat in the past year, so there is plenty of competition out there for Rosholt to earn his way back into the big show with. McDonald, Leites, Lister, Eastman, Lutter and Lambert are all out there looking for opponents. Maybe Rosholt can shore up his submission defense and knock off a couple of them. That would surely be a ticket back to the big dance. Than again, he could be the ticket for any of those afformentioned fighters. It certainly paints an interesting picture for the non-UFC middleweight picture.

Most def. He was just getting caught to easy in submissions and sometimes would try and show his standup skills which is still work in progress. Plus, he was getting kind of a high guarantee(at least how the UFC sees it), where had no choice but to be put in deep waters. It was a real disservice to him and others when the WEC folded their middleweight division.

The only thing I don't like abot things like this
is that the UFC usually cuts these guys before they finish the set number of contracted fights. I don’t get why its OK for them to cut a guy after two fights if they signed him to a four fight deal.
I think even if the guy loses every fight he should get all those fights. They took the risk on signing him, so take the punishment of getting a bunch of loses from him.

exactly what i was going to say
They are very similar actually. Especially because the team/promotion have all the power. If a player signs a long term deal, but under performs then the team will cut him. However, if a player plays above his contract he will hold out. The player rarely if ever gets more money though.
This is why many NFL players sign shorter contracts or ask for a larger signing bonus.

Rosholt Cut Interesting
I find it intriguing that with all the recent UFC cut posts as of late this one has generated the most discussion. it does not necessarily mean anything or at least anything we can accurately infer, but intriguing nonetheless
