Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez for UFC 108
UFC 108 just received a shot of adrenaline to the arm.
Tatame.com reports that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 108 in what will most likely determine the next heavyweight #1 contender.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-5-1) is the only fighter to win both a Pride and UFC championship. Nogueira last fought at UFC 102 where he defeated Randy Couture. Nogueira is the consensus #3 ranked heavyweight in the world.
Cain Velasquez (7-0) is one of the top heavyweight prospects in the UFC winning five straight fights inside the Octagon. Velasquez fought on October 24th where he defeated Ben Rothwell in a dominant performance that had many observers asking whether Cain would be granted a title shot.
UFC 108 is scheduled for January 2nd in Las Vegas, Nevada and will fill the role of the UFC's traditional end of the year mega-event. However, the 108 fight card has been in a state of flux in recent weeks with questions surrounding the main event. Adding a future #1 contender heavyweight bout adds some luster to a fight card that has been hit with the injury bug.
