Fabricio Werdum edges out Antonio Silva
Fabricio Werdum survived an early onslaught of punches from Antonio Silva to edge out a close decision victory in the first fight of CBS' Saturday Night Fights.
Werdum was in trouble early as he was dropped by Silva. Antonio pounced on his downed opponent but was unable to finish his Fabricio.
In the later rounds Fabricio rebounded getting the fight to the ground on several occasions and attempted several submissions. Silva appeared to have tired by the third round and Werdum found his stride in the clinch landing several knees. In the end, Werdum's ground work in rounds two and three was enough to earn him an unanimous decision victory as all three judges scored the fight 29-28.
This fight marked Antonio Silva's return to the United States from Japan since his steroid suspension by the CSAC last year.
Fabricio Werdum def. Antonio Silva via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
