Gegard Mousasi takes care of Sokoudjou
Gegard Mousasi cemented his position as a top-ten light heavyweight fighter with a second round TKO victory over Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
Gegard Mousasi was expected to handle Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou with ease. After all, the script for beating the judo black belt, and athletically gifted, Sokoudjou, is well known. All one has to do is to survive Sokoudjou's early flurry and attack when he is tired in the latter rounds.
Early on it appeared that Sokoudjou was getting the better of the fight as he landed several combinations and finally utilized his judo skills to secure several takedowns. While Gegard countered with his own grappling (one sweep at the end of the first round was particularly beautiful) it wasn't enough to win the first round. But Mousasi survived and the key to defeating Sokoudjou is getting through the early storm.
In the second round Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou appeared to have tired and Mousasi went on the attack taking Sokoudjou down and unleashing his own ground-and-pound. After several punches landed it appeared that Sokoudjou was no longer defending himself and the referee had no choice but to stop the fight.
Gegard Mousasi def. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via TKO (strikes) - Round 3, 3:43.

Not impressed.
Moussasi was not impressive at all. He had little respect for Sokodju’s power because he had his chin straight up in the air. I think Sokodju’s improved ground game surprised him and that’s why he was gassed going into the second rnd. He’s lucky he was fighting someone with no gas tank. He has a great record and I look forward to seeing him fight better competition.
