Strikeforce to counter WEC 45

Who wins? Strikeforce girls or WEC girls? Find out on December 19th!

Over the weekend Strikeforce announced their next Showtime event, entitled "Evolution" for December 19th. It ends up that "Evolution" just so happens to coincide with WEC 45.

WKR thinks this is an excellent move on the part of Strikeforce. By countering WEC 45, Strikeforce protects themselves from Zuffa's counter promotional efforts --would the UFC dare counter program their own event?-- plus they put their Showtime card against a weak WEC 45 card.

The last two Showtime cards drew an average viewership between 364,000 to 576,000 viewers. While not impressive the last WEC card that was headlined by Donald Cerrone only drew 419,000 viewers. That's equal competition and it will be tough for Zuffa to spin the situation in their favor.

So which event will you watch live?

Strikeforce: Evolution Card                                WEC 45 Card

- Cung Le vs. Scott Smith                                    - Donald Cerrone vs. Ed Ratcliff
- Matt Lindland vs. Ronald "Jacare" Souza         - Chris Horodecki vs. Anthony Njokuani
- Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. TBA               - Joseph Benavidez vs. Rani Yahya
- Robbie Lawler vs. TBA                                      - Scott Jorgensen vs. Takeya Mizugaki

Interesting. Strikeforce is smart to pick perhaps the weakest card Zuffa has put on to challenge against. When you’re main attraction is a guy coming off a loss, it takes a little shine off the event (UFC 105 has the same issue). Granted Strikeforce isn’t exactly putting on a barn burning event, either. Cung Le vs Scott Smith is interesting and will be a great fight but there no real storylines to play up. Cung Le decides to fight and they through the first able bodied middleweight at him. After this fight, Le’s Strikeforce contract is up so it’s off to Hollywood and/or Vegas. I mean “Actor” Cung Le was featured quite prominently at some recent UFC events.

Jacare vs Lindland has the potential to be…ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Because that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

No one outside Tokyo knows who King Mo is and are probably going to start laughing at some guy in dime store cape and crown. I mean he looks like late 80’s pro wrestler in that get up.
