Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader set for Australia

Earlier tonight Ryan Bader sent out an ominous tweet stating that he signed a bout agreement and it would, "definitely [be] a step up in competition!"
So who is Ryan Bader fighting? Why, it is Keith Jardine, at least according to MMA Weekly.
The report also states that Bader vs. Jardine will take place at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia.
The undefeated Ryan Bader (10-0) was correct when he described this as a step up in competition. Jardine has victories over Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin and Brandon Vera, all of which are far more impressive than Bader's wins over Eric Schafer, Carmelo Marrero and Vinny Magalhaes. Yet, this fight is still an absolute must win for Keith Jardine (15-6-1) who is coming off of back-to-back losses and is 1-3 in his past four fights and 2-4 in his past six.
At a glance (see after the jump) UFC 110 appears to be a fairly deep fight card, which is somewhat counter intuitive for what the UFC usually does for an overseas card. However UFC 110 will be a pay-per view event so it makes sense for Zuffa to load up on name fighters.
- Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez
- Michael Bisping vs. Wanderlei Silva
- Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic vs. Ben Rothwell
- Keith Jardine vs. Ryan Bader - Stephan Bonnar vs. Krzysztof Soszynski
- Dong Hyun Kim vs. Chris Lytle
- Chris Haseman vs. Elvis Sinosic
- James Te Huna vs. Igor Pokrajac

So if UFC 110 is going to be a PPV, does that mean it will be available to purchase at roughly 10am EST so it can be watched live here?

probably do early and late purchase option. I like it because it gives me a excuse to drink at 10 in the morning. Another way to rationalize early day drinking

If I remember correctly UFC 110 will actually happen on Sunday in order to be available for US PPV audience

IMO, that doesn’t really make sense. If it was held on Sunday in Austrailia with the main card starting 10pm local time that would put the event on at 11am EST right? I don’t think the UFC is willing to sacrifice the local experience to appease PPV buyers. I’d like to get more details on the start time of this show, along with when we can expect it be to aired either live on PPV or taped delayed.

So you think they are going to do the live PPV event at like 9am Sun in Aus so it can be aired on PPV in the US at 10ish pm?

Is it me or is this just a really bad idea for Jardine? I have no idea how his ground game really is, he hasn’t fought a ground fighter since Rashad on TUF. I really don’t like Bader, but if he decides that this fight goes to the ground it will. And most probably will stay there with Bader pitty patting Jardine for 3 rounds…
I don’t know.
Both guys certainly have a preference for well-endowed women for sure according to those pics…

i like both these fighter so I am torn who I want to win. A lose for Jardine is really dangerous and even though i do not think the UFC would cut him, he would be in some hot water

One of the big issues with Jardine is that he clearly hasn’t shown the ability to get motivated against second-grade opposition in the past (as in Houston Alexander) I understand that he fights most of the time against the big names but you have to beat these guys.
The other problem is that Jardine can’t put people away, he has definite technical issues with his punching, 90% of his punches are arm punches. He has a chance of catching Bader with a punch but it will have to be sound, which is rarely the case… Maybe he can time a knee, or manage to catch Bader with enough leg kicks early to prevent Bader from shooting… Otherwise he is going to be on his back trying to catch Bader in a submission and I don’t see that happening…

I dunno if its a motivation thing, I think he just has a weak chin.
Really outside of the Houston Alexander loss everyone else Jardine has lost to is top-ten.
And like any good gate keeper Jardine can win some of them, lose others in a close fight and get his ass knocked out in some of the other fights.

You might be right on the motivation and chin. I was wondering out loud if it was motivation or not.

My rant just reminded me of the interview with Bones Jones this week where he said that Greg Jackson told him to embrace his quirks and go all out with his striking. Sometimes embracing quirks is the wrong idea. Embracing the awkward way Jardine strikes is the wrong idea because it is technically unsound and does more harm than good.
I also think Jon Jones will get his ass Urijah Fabered by a Mike Brown-type eventually… Just a hunch.

The thing to remember is that Jon Jones now is probably no where close to the fighter he will become. He is only 22 and has only been fighting professionally for a year and a half. This will be his first fight with a top camp. Yes, he could fizzle out, but he is so raw that we do not really know what he will become.

it is mind boggling that Jones is just 22

I completly agree. The guy has monstrous potential. I am pretty confident he won’t fizzle out, unless he breaks down mentally, but he will get caught on the chin before long with all his antics, that’s all I am saying. And he will potentially be all the better for it.

yea, i hear ya. especially if he faces a strong counter puncher who waits for the opening.
