B.J. Penn Dominates Diego Sanchez and Retains UFC Lightweight Belt
For a title fight that nearly went the distance fans knew it was all over after the first thirty seconds when B.J. Penn dropped Diego Sanchez with a left-right hook combo. From that point on the fight was all Penn.
Throughout the fight B.J. put on a boxing clinic effortlessly landing combos and jabs while dodging whatever Sanchez could throw at him. In reality each round was an exercise in survival skills for Diego as it took all of Sanchez's tremendous energy just to hold on. Yet for all Diego's work and effort he couldn't gain an inch as an unblemished B.J. Penn continued to stalk him.
Once the fifth round arrived the point of the fight was almost moot. Penn had already demonstrated that he was the superior fighter while Diego attempted to get anything started. Mercifully (or horribly, depending on your point of view) Penn cut Sanchez opening a huge gash, which caused the fight to be called.
B.J. Penn retained the lightweight title and insured that fans discuss him as one of the pound-for-pound best in the sport.
