UFC 107 Monday Morning Pick Roast
What happens to all those bad pick segments?
This is a question that has been bugging WKR for some time. Writers and pundits often make horrible predictions yet no one holds them accountable (except for our readers, of course). The bloated size of the Internet often allows us to hide our mistakes behind the ether of electrons and photons, but not here at WKR.
We are introducing a new feature we are calling Monday Morning Pick Roast where we will recap our major event Picks Segment FJM-style. Our observant readers will notice that our first edition is already a day late which we wouldn't have any other way. But the point of this feature is to allow our readers to see our horrible mistakes in bold helvetica font.
SBN coverage of UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez
Tis the season to be jolly and the WKR staff is very jolly with their UFC 107 picks. Right Spencer?
E. Spencer Kyte: I'd roast my picks, but there isn't much to pick at when you go 5-0 on the main card and nail three fights dead on. Feeling quite proud of my Florian / Fitch / Mir trifecta, regardless of the fact that the final 2/3 of that run were as easy as that one chick from college who slept with everybody.
Still, this is my Barry Horowitz moment and I'm going to marvel in my greatness and pat myself on the back for as long as I can, which will last until someone realizes I went 2-4 on the preliminary card... that is where I picked like Barry Horowitz wrestled.
Too bad Spencer doesn't hold a candle to site founder Zak Woods who went 10-1. When reached for a comment Zak simply said, "Muhahhahahahaha. MUHAHAHAHA. MUHAHAHAHAH!"
Luckily not everyone at WKR had a great night for picking fights. Enter Nick Becker.
Let's be real here. There is nothing Sanchez has to offer that Penn hasn't seen before. Penn is superior in every facet of the game and should absolutely dominate this from start to finish. Sanchez is tough and has never been stopped before - but there's a first time for everything. Penn via TKO Round 3.
Let's be real here. There's no prize to be gained for stating the obvious. I mean, would I pat myself on the back if I woke up in the morning and ‘predicted' the sky would be blue and grass would be green? Actually yes, yes I would.
Unfortunately for Pierce, he won't be able to hold Fitch down for three rounds en route to a grinding (read: boring) decision victory. Normally I'd pick Fitch via decision but I have a feeling he'll be able to get the finish this time around. Fitch by Submission Round 2.
Unfortunately for the majority of MMA fans, this fight did end with a boring decision victory. Fortunately for myself (and my wife), I was able to fast-forward through this stinker. The fact of the matter is that I knew it would put me into a deep sleep if I watched it. Congratulations Jon, you may have found yourself a new sponsor - Ambien.grinding
As has been mentioned ad nauseum, Guida is near impossible to finish - that doesn't mean Florian won't spend 15 minutes trying anyway. Florian via Unanimous Decision in the Fight of the Night.
As will no longer be mentioned ad nauseum, Guida is near impossible to finish.
Buentello has been dying to get back into the UFC and I believe he'll make the most out of his return. Buentello by KO Round 1.
Yikes, this was bad. I guess I should have learned from Frank Trigg/David Louiseau/Phil Baroni's Octagon return that these UFC comeback fights don't usually have happy endings.
Not to worry fight fans, the obligatory ‘fight that should be on the main card but isn't' will end up making the broadcast anyway. Belcher via TKO (of the Night) Round 2.
It looks like the $199.96 I spent (4 Easy Payments of only $49.99!) on Miss Cleo's 7 Steps to Becoming a Psychic is finally starting to pay off.
I don't really have much confidence in this pick but I think Johnson rights the ship with a win here. I want to be perfectly clear though, I could be wrong. Johnson via Submission Round 1.
Hedging your bets truly is one life's simple pleasures. Looks like either way I couldn't lose. No wonder politicians do this all the time....
Burns has the superior eye-poking ability. Burns by Split Decision.
Wait, what's that you say? Eye-pokes are illegal? Hmmm, in that case I pick Grant. Oh that's right, the fight's over. Never mind.

10-1 as well. What up Bitches
except my loss was due to a lucky upkick. Your (Zak) loss was your pick getting smoked. Chalk this up as a moral victory.
Clown Baby, out.

At a certain point sample size does not matter. Mine is large enough to provide statistical validity. Suck it.
Thanks for the assist Nick

yeah, MMA is so weird, like when Jake Rosholt won via submission. That makes no sense!

True
I’ll tell you this though, I’m never picking against Diego in a mean face contest. Dude looks like he has to poop something fierce.

Danny Tanner
As an aside, Bob Saget was in town doing stand-up a couple of days ago and a buddy had tickets but I had to work (damn retail job!). Has anyone ever seen his act? I hear he’s hilarious and raunchy as all hell.

not really funny
it is very raunchy and that is why people find it funny, because danny tanner (mr. wholesome family sitcom) is being so raunchy. if you took his material and had another comedian use it the response would not be so positive.
