Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson, broke his leg for the second time this year. He still expects to fight interim lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez, by the end of the year.

Grease Gate 2, Ishida files complaint against Melendez

"Mitsuhiro Ishida's camp has filed a verbal protest to the California State Athletic Commission allegedly that Gilbert Melendez greased in Saturday's match on Showtime."

Update: Melendez responded to the allegations,

"I did not grease in the fight. The athletic commission was with me the whole time. I didn’t bring any grease with me. I didn’t think there was much grappling in the fight anyway. It’s kind of funny, but kind of weak. I beat him good and there’s no way I greased."

Mitsuhiro Ishida will replace Josh Thomson at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg on Aug. 15th.

It was previously rumored that Thomson would withdraw from his lightweight title defense against Gilbert Melendez due to a lingering leg injury.
