Scott Smith Pulls Rocky Balboa on Cung Le

Photo

Cung Le is a lot of fun to watch.  He flicks those kicks with unbelieavable quickness and accuracy.  It is truly a pleasure to watch.  Add that to the fact Scott Smith thinks he is rewarded points for absorbing blows and you know why Cung Le was up 20-17 after two rounds.  However, the strikes were not really doing much damage as they were scoring points so the fight was never over and Scott Smith proved that.

In a repeat of his fight against Radach, Smith hands down lost the early rounds, but landed one big punch in the final round to take the fight.  He clipped Le in the third and finished off the wobbily Le with some left hooks and pumbling on the ground.  Ha-Lirious, Scott Smith even admits in the post fight interview that his style is to take punches because he has a good chin and power punches of his own.  He may never be a real contender in the division, but I will be excited for every card Scott is on.  The fight really is never over until the it is over with him.

Short night, but good night of fights.  Two first round finishes, some impressive performances, a potential fight of the night, and a come back win.  Strikeforce put together some solid matches and they paid off in full.  Hopefully next time there will be more than seven total fights on the card.

You were epic fail on that one

Really WEC 45 didn’t compare. I personally believed Mizugaki was being overrated by having a close loss to overrated Miguel Torres and that was proven (at least to me) by Mizu being dominated by Jorgenson. That was pitted against Mo proving, (as I personally already knew), that he is a F****** STUD. Benavidez vs Yayha wasn’t really relevant, everybody who know anything knew how that would end. (at least with Jacare vs Lindland you saw the #1 BJJ guy in the world who is athletically blessed vs Lindland so it would end with beautiful BJJ). Thompson Melendez was better than the entire WEC card put together, and Cung was fun to watch do his thing before he gassed at the end of the first then you got to watch Smith do his comeback kid act. Definitely up for card of the year. If they had a great undercard fight to throw in there it could have really put it over the top. Apparently Mo’s entrance brought the house down, they really need to put that on for the next show.

Gimme 1 round!

he was more referring to assignments, per se. I got to watch and update strikeforce and did the same for WEC.

Side Note, i just watched WEC on my DVR and probably watched the whole card in under 45 minutes. i do not know how to watch their cards live. there is sooooo much fluff and filler it is outrageous. Not talking about commercials, but the lack of fighting during the broadcast
