SBN coverage of Strikeforce: Evolution
After the jump WKR will try out a new feature where we rank the fighters based upon their perceived value to Strikeforce (based on "to show" money). Followed by our own rankings.
Value of each fighter to Strikeforce according to "to show" money.
Cung Le > "Jacare"/Gilbert Melendez/Scott Smith > Matt Lindland > Josh Thomson/Mike Whitehead > "King Mo" > Antwain Britt/Justin Wilcox/Scott Lighty > Alex Crispim/ A.J. Fonseca > Daisuke Nakamura
Now this is what WKR believes the ranking should look like.
Gilbert Melendez > Cung Le > "Jacare"/"King Mo" > Thomson > Matt Lindland/ Scott Smith > Antwain Britt/Justin Wilcox/Scott Lighty > Alex Crispim/ A.J. Fonseca > Daisuke Nakamura
WKR Perspective: Le's drawing power keeps hm ranked high but he shouldn't be worth three times as much as the new Strikeforce lightweight champion. "Jacare" and "King Mo" are both high ceiling prospects who deserve to be taken care of. Josh Thomson's injury issues keep him behind the top earners. Matt Lindland and Scott Smith are both middle tier middleweights.

Le's Drawing Power
“Le’s drawing power keeps hm ranked high but he shouldn’t be worth three times as much as the new Strikeforce lightweight champion.”
truth is that Le has been a long-time resident and MA teacher in San Jose. There is also a very large Vietnamese community as well.. so Yes.. Le is probably worth that amount.
Scott’s a great guy but he probably would have more draw if the fight was held in Elk Grove or Sacramento.
As I have said before, this whole “WKR ranking” thing is controversial, subjective and it all depends on what factors you value and how you weight each of those factors.
Le is a great draw but he didnt fight for almost 2 years and is a one dimensional fighter who requires a specific opponent. He is worth a lot of money for his drawing power but with all his flaws should he really make X3 times as much as Melendez? I don’t think so…
