WEC 45 Ratings Suffer Another Drop

via media.ufc.tv

WEC 45: Cerrone vs. Ratcliff are now available thanks to MMA Junkie and the results are not pretty.

WEC 45 drew 330,000 viewers for a 0.4 household rating. That's 89,000 fewer viewers than WEC 43, a card also headlined by Donald Cerrone.

Sadly, WEC numbers have been trending downward since DirecTV pulled the Comcast owned Versus from their broadcast lineup.

After WEC 44 WKR wrote this

Since the DirecTV-Comcast divorce the WEC has held two events that drew approximately identical viewership. WEC 43 drew 419,000 viewers while WEC 44 drew 414,000 viewers. Prior to DirecTVpulling Versus, WEC 42 drew 670,000 viewers. That is a 37% drop in ratings for both events when compared to pre-dispute numbers.

WEC 45 ratings fell 49.3% from WEC 42, the last event held before the dispute.

MMA Payout also pointed out that Versus lost another 9 million households due to free previews expiring on new cable packages.

Versus is available in over 75 million households.

Stick to Sundays

Going head-to-head with Strikeforce last weekend certainly wouldn’t have helped things either.

This is why the WEC needs to stick to their Sunday fight nights – they have the night to themselves, not much else to entice fight fans on Sunday nights, and they can piggy-back promotion through UFC events leading up to the event.

i personally hate the sunday fights...

usually watching these events involves me and my boys getting together, getting wasted, and enjoying the night…sunday’s are not a good day for us all since most of us have to get up early on monday.

and i can’t help but feel like a lot of the people watching these events are having similar situations.

but, you’re definitely right about saturday conflicting with strikeforce. what about fridays? isn’t MFC the only sort of major show on friday nights?

i was at the fight. when the prelims started the crowd was maybe 35%

when the cerrone fight was on 90%. i got a comped ticket and i’ll bet half the other people got comped tickets. it was a sorry gate receipt night for wec too. what is sad was 9 out of the 10 fights were good. only horodezki looked incredibly sloppy. props to cerrone and bart p, for the most interesting fight of the night vs pettris.(i think that was his name)

yes i am obsessive, obnoxious, in your face and all about covering the spread. those are my good qualities.

all the fights were intersting except horodezki. the crowd

went wild for cerrone. cerrone is to the wec what forrest griffin is to ufc. he is incredibly popular. just his style. i’ll bet when they showed those early fights you never saw the audience b/c the lower seats were really empty. it could be economy or xmas spending but the people missed out on a great card.

Awesome fights – I watched both at the same time due to some obligations. That’s hard to do. DirectTV needs an aluminum bat to the knees.
