What is Kimbo Slice's Threshold of UFC Success?

Photo

Now that The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale card is finalized observers are beginning to ponder what level of success Kimbo Slice can actually achieve in the UFC.

While some believe that Slice's first UFC fight is an absolute must win WKR isn't so sure due to Slice's tremendous drawing power. WKR believes that it really depends upon how Kimbo performs against Houston Alexander this Saturday night.

The only way Kimbo Slice is one and done in the UFC is if the Alexander fight is a repeat of Slice vs. Petruzelli or in other words Slice is knocked out early in the first round. Zuffa's bar of expectations for Kimbo Slice are so low that as long as he looks decent (read as: doesn't get knocked out) on Saturday then Slice will fight again on another Spike card. Now if Kimbo drops two fights in a row then it becomes more difficult for Zuffa to justify his presence inside the Octagon.

If Slice actually defeats Houston Alexander it will open a whole new can of worms. WKR can easily envision a roster of beatable opponents for Kimbo to fight on Spike cards as the co-main event or the third fight of the fight in order to prop up ratings into the 4-6 million range.

The UFC is a business and delivering big ratings for Spike helps their bottom line in advertising dollars so there is no way Zuffa will squander this resource.

Ultimately there is a lot riding on the Slice-Alexander fight for all the parties involved.

Kimbo is nothing more than a good guy with an interesting look that got hyped up to epic proportions. He has bad standup, a bad chin, and no ground game. He was slotted in possible worked/fixed fights to milk every last cent out of him.

Zuffa would reap more benefit from the Kimbo brand but casting him in his own reality TV show.

that is interesting idea but prob the most entertaining portions would be at the porn studio and you might not get that on Television. Maybe HBO or Showtime….

I think that’s a small part of his life…..doesn’t he have like half a dozen kids and profess to be a family man? Focus on that for maybe like a 3 or 4 part mini documentary/reality show.

My idea for a show was along the lines of “Kimbo punches things”

Houston Alexander is a nightmare for Kimbo. I have no idea why they actually thought this was a good idea. Alexander has KO power, decent leg kicks and is much, much faster than Kimbo. All three thing Kimbo is vulnerable to. Plus, if it lasts more than a round, both of them will gas but I bet Kimbo gases first. This was not a good business decision. Although I am happy with seeing Kimbo getting knocked out…

kimbo is going to win b/c the ufc needs a ppv star

remember when he fought nelson 6.1 million people saw it. sorry to believe in a conspiracy but alexander is going down like he did vs james irwin. maybe 1 minute. count on it. the ufc needs a ppv star and somebody who can get numbers until lesnar (fights again)or machida vs rua 2 happens. the guy above with kimbo gettting a reality show with zuffa producing makes sense to me to.

The UFC would never risk their credibilty by “fixing” or “working” a fight, but I guarantee they would be shocked as hell if Houston took Kimbo down, which IMO would be a nifty game plan for Alexander to employ.

At any rate one of these glass jawed fools is going to hit the canvas. Unfortunately, an Alexander win does nothing for the UFC in the long or short term, except sacrifice one of their potential cash cows.

What an incredibly confusing comment. Are you Houston Alexander, or do you know Houston Alexander, or are you a Houston Alexander fan?
