Where hath Bellator gone? Hector Lombard fighting for Shine too

"Can you hear me now?"

According to MMA Junkie Hector Lombard will fight Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira at Shine 3 somewhere in California next March.

WKR believes the big story here is that this will be Lombard's second fight outside of Bellator since winning their middleweight title. Lombard's fight with Ferreira will take place in March and Bellator's second season is scheduled to begin in April. So what happens if Lombard loses or is injured and how would that affect Bellator's second season? After all we still don't know what Bellator will even do in their second season --another tournament or more traditional title fights-- so there is a certain degree of risk for Bellator.

Sadly there aren't any answers to these questions.

Of course, Bellator did make the conscious decision of allowing their fighters, specifically their name fighters, the opportunity of fighting outside of the organization. While there are risks in this strategy it is definitely fighter friendly especially when you are a start up promotion and the future is uncertain.

Big fan of Lombard. More chances to see him fight the better for us, but hopefully does not spread himself too thin because most people he fights at this point a loss hurts more than a win helps

Must be a slow news week in MMA if we are trying to conjure up news that isn’t news. Bellator was pretty clear it wouldn’t stand in the way of its fighters staying active. Lombard wouldn’t defend his title until at least July or August based on how Bellator is following the same tourney style again. The Season II tourney won’t even end until the end of June. Not sure your angle here given this Shine fight is 4 to 5 months before he’d defend his title with Bellator anyways.
