TUF 10 Finale Preview

Jon Jones (9-0) vs. Matt Hamill (7-2): Highlight reel knockout?

This fight has all the makings of a coming out party for Jon Jones. Unfortunately that party already happened when Jones spanked Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94 but the fight definitely appears to be tailored made for Jones to deliver a highlight reel knockout.

Matt Hamill is a TUF season three veteran who is notorious for standing instead of utilizing his wrestling skills. The conventional wisdom is that Hamill will need to take this fight to the mat to have a chance to win but WKR isn't so sure that Hamill has the superior wrestling advantage.

Hamill is a three time NCAA Division III national champion and has won a silver medal in freestyle wrestling during the summer 2001 Deaflympics, but Jon Jones also has a wrestling pedigree, as he won a state championship in high school (he's only 22!) and was a national Junior College champion. How much difference is there between Junior College and Division III?

If the fighters stay on their feet, and we are pretty sure it will, then there is a high probability of a Jon Jones victory.

Star-divide

Roy "Big Country" Nelson (13-4) vs. Brendan Schaub (4-0): Who wins TUF 10?

Who will win TUF 10? Better yet, does anyone even care?

Schaub is a former NFL player (he never got off the practice squad) and is a striking specialists, we use that term loosely. Unfortunately he is fighting a Renzo Gracie black belt in Roy Nelson. Brendan does train with Greg Jackson so there is hope that he is well prepared for Nelson's grappling skills.

While the UFC would most likely hope that Nelson loses or proves his worth with an exciting fight --due to Nelson's unappealing physique-- WKR is expecting Nelson to grind out a victory on the ground, which will result in a sound bite from Dana White saying he is "unimpressed" with Nelson, again.

Kimbo Slice (3-1) vs. Houston Alexander (9-4): Worst kept secret, ever!

Sadly, this will most likely be the fight with the highest ratings during the TUF 10 broadcast.

While the UFC has done a lot to help Kimbo Slice he is still coming into this fight as the underdog. The odds put Alexander as the prohibitive favorite but WKR doesn't believe those are high enough. Kimbo Slice has horrible stand-up and that is suppose to be his strong suit. Not to mention the fact that Kimbo is struggling with cutting weight to the catch-weight of 215lbs.

While Slice has zero ground game neither does Houston Alexander so at least Kimbo doesn't have to worry about that Jiu-Jitsu stuff.

Kimbo's saving grace may come from Alexander's questionable chin, the problem is that Slice's chin is even more questionable, Seth Petruzelli anyone?

The UFC is desperately hoping for an exciting slugfest so that they can justify bringing Kimbo back and cashing in on his drawing power. Unfortunately that probably won't happen.

Frankie Edgar (10-1) vs. Matt Veach (11-0): Destined to fail?

Wow, is Matt Veach a big underdog. At +450 he appears to have zero chance of defeating Frankie Edgar but MMA fans know that anything is possible in this wonderful sport.

To WKR this bout reeks of Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago or Keith Jardine vs. Houston Alexander with Edgar playing the role of possible title contender being fed an easy opponent while the title picture clears up. If the past is any indication this doesn't usually work out very well.

Veach has just one UFC bout under his belt but that is more than Alexander or Thiago had when they knocked off the favorites. While WKR isn't picking Veach this trend is certainly giving us pause on placing our life savings on Edgar to win.

Marcus Jones (4-1) vs. Matt Mitrione (0-0): Brain damage can't save you now

When Marcus Jones went all Hulk Hogan on Matt Mitrione a TUF finale fight was born.

Both fighters are former NFL players and their time in MMA has spawned different skill sets. Jones is a ground fighter while Mitrione is a stand-up fighter.

Marcus Jones is a very emotional fighter, hence the nickname "Big Baby", so WKR can envision a scenario where Jones psyches himself out for the fight and is knocked out by Mitrione.

i think im the only one that likes hamil in the main event. picking him by ko3

im also gong to go with Schaub to upset dough boy by KO

houston ko 1 over kimbo

Mitrione over jones by KO1 – really dont like jones reactions to punches. very very awkward and very weak chin. mitrione sucks though. jones could easily take him down and submit him.

edgar by UD. cant pick against my fellow golden eagle. plus he should win this.
