Who will Nick Diaz Fight in Strikeforce Return?

Photo

Nick Diaz will make his return to fighting on January 30th.

No word on a possible opponent but speculation will certainly center on K.J. Noons and Jay Hieron as the obvious options.

K.J. Noons holds a controversial victory over Nick Diaz and was recently signed by Strikeforce. Noons' return is being targeted for the January 30th card and could fight Diaz in a rematch, which would certainly stoke media interest.

Jay Hieron is already scheduled to fight on the Jan. 30th card and was suppose to fight Diaz back at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg but Diaz didn't show for a pre-fight drug test.

For what it is worth WKR's money is on Noons.

K.J. defeated Nick due to a doctor's stoppage over a cut and Diaz recently underwent plastic surgery to clear out scar tissue and shave down his orbital bones. Plus Diaz absolutely hates K.J. This way they also keep Jay Hieron in wings to fight the winner in a welterweight title match.

The fight makes perfect sense from both a PR and a fighter perspective.

Noons and Diaz fought at 160 AFAIK. Strikeforce doesn’t have a 160 division that was an EliteXC creation. Is Noons planning on moving up to 170? Is Diaz planning on coming back down to 170, since he’s been fighting at 185? Diaz vs. Noons seems like a pipedream to me at this point, and that’s not even figuring in Diaz pot addiction.

Noons can easily fight at 170 and dont forget about SF’s propensity of making catch-weight bouts

Right, who said they can’t make a catch weight fight at 165. I worry about people sometimes.

Pot addiction? Right…

Aside from the fact that pot is non-addictive, he takes it for medical purposes; the last I read it was for his ADHD. Would you say he was a ritalin addict if he took that for his ADHD instead?

Sounds like another decent card.

MMA needs guys like Nick Diaz and Mayhem Miller. Characters that are extremely talented inside the cage and entertaining in interviews.
